América set foot in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup after beating Chivas 3-0, which was left with one less player for most of the second half this Wednesday in the first leg of the round of 16. final, played at the Akron stadium.

The goals of the azulcrema team were the work of Colombian Julián Quiñones at minute 15, a penalty by Chilean Diego Valdés at 70 and Henry Martín at 90+4.

The Águilas, the most successful team in the area with seven titles, could lose by a difference of two goals in the second leg next Wednesday at the Azteca stadium and would still qualify for the next round.

Chivas is not finished, but it has a complicated mission because it needs to win by the same 3-0 to force penalties. The winner will face whoever comes out ahead between Alajuelense of Costa Rica and the New England Revolution of the MLS.
