Algeria Triumphs Over Bolivia in Vladimir Petkovic’s Debut as Head Coach

For Vladimir Petkovic’s very first steps at the head of Algeria, the Greens beat Bolivia to the wire after conceding two goals due to defensive errors.

There were many issues at stake, despite the lack of enthusiasm surrounding the meeting. The first for Vladimir Petkovic in his role as National Team coach, of course. The first moments without Djamel Belmadi, too. The post-CAN, major failure, the baptisms of fire of Bakrar, Kendouci and Hadj Moussa, also, the returns of Brahimi, Benzia.

A first half by Yacine Brahimi

He will have been in the oven and in the mill. Not only recalled to the National Team but also a starter and captain, Yacine Brahimi was probably keen to definitely convince Vladimir Petkovic to make him an important member of his team.

The former FC Porto winger was literally untenable. He should have benefited from a penalty, could have delivered 3 assists and ended up, at the end of the first period, going through a mouse hole to then find Gouiri, who thus scored his very first goal for the selection (43′, 1 -0).

During this half we will note the accuracy of a Zerrouki very comfortable in a fairly clear playing system, a sort of 4-4-2 à la Gourcuff.

Apart from this goal and the Brahimi case, we will note the interesting movements of Gouiri, the always valuable projections of Aït-Nouri and a defense which is still quite feverish, including after the injury exit of Bensebaïni in the 20th minute .

In the second period Petkovic directly launched Amoura and Benzia in place of a disappointing Chaibi but the Algerians conceded a goal from an entry corner following opposing pressure before conceding a second on a big error from Mandi who did not fails to control an aerial ball in front of the opportunistic Algaranaz (70′).

The Algerians let the storm pass and began to show interesting things, notably thanks to a Benzia who was able to take over the lead. lead technique to direct the game and a very sharp Amoura on the left wing. The starters of Hadj Moussa and Bakrar will bring even more freshness.

It was Benzia who equalized after a lot of work from Atal and Bakrar who fought well in the box to serve it from the penalty spot (79′).

The entry of Kendouci in place of Bentaleb, also disappointing, will bring more and Mandi who had an opportunity to score on a serve from Benzia, will not miss the second opportunity to catch up in stoppage time.

Kendouci sends a cross into the area, Bakrar and Mandi are on it but it is the one who finished the match with the captain’s armband who will give the victory to the greens.
