Alfonso Cabello wins silver in the kilometer time trial of the Paralympic Track World Cup

MADRID, 24 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish cyclist Alfonso Cabello has won the silver medal in the C5 kilometer time trial test on the fourth and penultimate day of the Paralympic Track World Championship, which is being held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and thus offers the first medal for the Spanish team in the event.

The sprinter from Cordoba has returned to the podium of a World Championship in his favorite event, the CRI kilometer, thanks to a formidable performance from less to more, improving the one he performed during the morning in the qualifying. Cabello made it to the final with the fourth best time in the classification, a time of 1:04.730 that he managed to lower by almost a second in the decisive final.

In the fight for the medals, he completed the kilometer in 1:03.823 and took silver, which allows him to get back on the podium of a World Cup event in the CRI kilometer after several years of absence due to physical problems.

For his part, Ricardo Ten was just half a second away from bronze in the CRI C1 kilometer. The Valencian, who qualified as third for the final, had a nice fight for third place with the Malaysian Shaharuddin, who finally managed to win with a time of 1:15.572, compared to Ten’s 1:16.073.

The Spanish team also had Luis Javier Arcega competing in the CRI kilometer test, who finished seventh in class C2; Eduardo Santas, who was fifth in class C3; and Damián Ramos, who after his foot came out of the cleat had to settle for 30th place in C4.
