Alex De Miñaur: Rising Star of the 2024 Tennis Season

We are practically closing the first quarter of the 2024 calendar and Alex De Miñaur appears as the player with the most victories of the course: 18. The last one, in his debut at the Miami Open 2024, where he comfortably beat Soon Woo Kwon.

And Alex De Miñaur has taken a giant step in his performance since the season started, showing that he has plenty of tennis to fight against the greats and making the leap to the top 10 that we had been waiting for for so long. A constant evolution that has ended up bearing fruit, although the best is surely yet to come. At the moment, in the third round of the Miami Open 2024, an interesting match awaits him with the German Jan-Lennard Struff, but before that we saw him pass through the table Tennis Channel to comment on some current issues.

The sun shines in Miami

“After a couple of very overcast days, it is wonderful to finally see the sun at the tournament. It has been a difficult few days because you know if you will be able to play your game or you will have to wait the next day, sometimes you have to wait a long time in the locker room to finally not go on the court, so today we finally had a peaceful day with the weather . “I was fully prepared to compete this afternoon and luckily I had a round match, so I am very happy with the victory.”

Happy with the conditions

“I like that people see me as a player who can adapt to all surfaces, I really like the conditions here because they are fast, the game becomes a little more physical and the ball moves at a higher speed, which helps me when it comes to facing the giants we currently have in the locker room. Those conditions help my shots do a little more damage to them.”

Evolution off the slopes

“I have always done a great job in terms of preparation, it helps me to have a certain calm regarding the rest of the elements, I usually have the whole issue of daily routines and exercises very controlled, although lately I try to handle all these issues with a little more flexibility, without becoming obsessed. In the end you see that the same things happen every day: the same breakfast, the same warm-up, the same training, the same pre-match routine… whatever, everyone has their own. So now I’m looking to flow a little more and not be so square.”

Will there be a wedding with Katie Boulter?

“In Australia they asked me many times, but it’s not the time yet. We have been together for four years and the truth is that it is being a wonderful stage of my life, we enjoy every second we share on the circuit and off it. It is very gratifying to see how we are both bringing out our best version on the court, so we try to support each other whenever we can. We push ourselves to bring out the best in ourselves in all aspects of life.”
