Alex de Miñaur Retains Mexican Tennis Open Title with Victory Over Casper Ruud

The Australian Alex de Miñaur revalidated his title as champion of the 2024 Mexican Tennis Open, held in the recovered port of Acapulco, by beating the Norwegian Casper Ruud in the Final with a double 6-4.

De Minaur (9/ATP), third seed, needed one hour and 57 minutes to beat the Norwegian, sixth in the seeding and eleventh in the ATP classification.

At the very beginning of the match, Ruud had a difficult time holding his serve in the opening game. In his first turn at service, De Minaur was more solid.

Soon came the first break. In the third game, the Australian took advantage of his second break point to take a 2-1 lead. With ease, De Minaur confirmed the break to go away 3-1.

From that moment on, De Minaur looked dominant on the court with well-placed winners while Ruud began to show desperation due to the discomfort when returning and the impossibility of being aggressive when serving.

Furthermore, the 28ºC temperature seemed to affect Ruud more, who sweated profusely.

With 5-3 down, the Norwegian had to increase the effectiveness of his first serve to avoid losing the first set with a second break against him.

De Minaur served to win the first set 6-4 in 53 minutes in which he was more solid in the serve and aggressive in the game.

The Australian won in this area 87% of the points he played with the first serve against 59 percent of the Norwegian and also hit 13 winners to only four for Ruud.
