Ajax is charmed by Jaden Philogene, a 22-year-old winger from Hull City. The English journalist Tom Collomosse released this news on Wednesday morning via X. The English youth international is one of the trendsetters at number six in the Championship this season. Philogene is still at the MKM Stadium until mid-2026, with the option for another season.

Hull City took over Philogene last summer for 5.8 million euros from Aston Villa, which did negotiate a buyback clause of around 15 million English pounds.

The Tigers hope to sell the right leg for an even higher amount in the future. Transfermarkt estimates the current market value of Philogene at around 8 million euros.

According to Collomosse, Ajax is one of the clubs that are closely following Philogene. The winger is having an excellent debut season in Hull. In 22 games for the Tigers, Philogene has already scored 8 goals and 6 assists. This makes him joint top scorer for Hull City.

London’s Philogene is a youth product of Aston Villa, Ajax’s upcoming opponent in the Conference League. He was under contract with the Birmingham club between 2019 and 2023. Ultimately, Philogene played six official matches on behalf of the Villans, in which he provided two assists.

Before Aston Villa let Philogene leave for Hull City, he was stabled at Stoke City and Cardiff City. In Wales, however, the winger was not as convincing as he was in Hull this season. For Cardiff, Philogene only managed 4 goals and 1 assist in 37 Championship games.

Whether Ajax even has the financial resources to attract Philogene remains to be seen. The Amsterdam team spent no less than 115 million euros on twelve players last summer, of which only Diant Ramaj has really managed to convince so far. There is a good chance that Ajax will again not participate in the Champions League next season, which will have a significant impact on the Amsterdam transfer budget.
