Bergmann, who comes from Sauerland, played in Mannheim both in his youth and in the DEL from 2021 to 2022. He then returned to Iserlohn on loan before moving to Berlin last summer. The Adler had already responded to the provocative celebration after his 3-2 winning goal on Wednesday with an unusual action and offered their fans to return old Mannheim Bergmann jerseys in exchange for a voucher. The Berliners countered with a discount on the striker’s polar bear jersey and a puck with his celebrating pose.

Eisbären managing director Thomas Bothstede criticized Mannheim’s reactions on Friday: “I don’t think the manner is okay.” To end the Bergmann posse, he suggested that the DEL’s fines for Bergmann and Gawanke after the boxing incident be donated “to a good cause,” as well as amounts for every jersey and puck sold. If the league doesn’t agree, “Lean will add the amount again.”

In Berlin’s victory on Friday, which meant a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, Bergmann missed out on all but four penalty minutes. Gawanke, born and educated in Berlin, scored for Mannheim.
