LE SCAN SPORT – The organizers of the Olympic Games have planned to distribute several hundred thousand condoms (male and female) so that Olympic and Paralympic athletes can make the most of their summer in the capital.

Paris is renowned for being the city of love, and the organizers of the 2024 Olympic Games have understood this well. After a 2021 edition in Tokyo where the question of relationships between athletes was widely debated after the global pandemic, Paris 2024 took the question very seriously.

At the microphone of Sky NewsLaurent Michaud, the director of the Olympic village, announced that 300,000 condoms were planned for athletes from all countries, at a rate of two per day.

“It is very important that conviviality here is something essential. Working with the Athletes’ Commission, we wanted to create places where athletes would feel very enthusiastic and comfortable.” declared the director of the Olympic village, which covers the municipalities of Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen-Sur-Seine and Île-Saint-Denis.

In comparison, 100,000 condoms were distributed in London in 2012 and 70,000 in Sydney in 2000. In Tokyo, where relationships were discouraged in times of pandemic, 160,000 were still distributed. The gold medal and the Olympic record will remain for Brazil: in Rio in 2016, athletes received 450,000 condoms.
