21st Peter Pan Judo Trophy: Fighting for Solidarity on the Tatami

Peter Pan Judo Trophy: 21st edition

Under the motto “I fight for you who fight” 250 little judokas fight on the tatami to support their peers fighting cancer

Rome, 25 March 2024 – Everything is ready for the 21st “Peter Pan Trophy”. On Sunday 7 April the “Tomita Judo School” will welcome around 250 young judokas, ready to challenge each other on the tatami under the solidarity motto “I fight for you who fight”. The appointment is from 8.30 am to 1.00 pm at the PalaLuiss – Via Martino Longhi – which has renewed the free concession of its spaces.

Coming from ten judo clubs from all over Italy, the approximately 250 little judokas, aged between 5 and 11, will participate in what has now become an unmissable meeting in the capital with solidarity and inclusive sport, promoted by the Judo School Tomita, with the patronage of the Lazio Region and the Department of Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion of the Municipality of Rome.

Like every year, the spirit of the event, which over the years has seen the participation of over 6000 children, has little to do with competitive spirit and a lot to do with solidarity: participants will fight to help their friends who are experiencing a moment of fragility in the disease, those children and young people affected by cancer who fight for their lives every day. In particular those who, together with their families, stay in the homes of the Peter Pan odv Association which offers them free hospitality and assistance during their stay in the capital for treatment in Roman hospitals. The contributions made available by the ten participating judo schools will be donated to the association. Info: www.peterpanodv.it

“The event has the specific aim of promoting and spreading the culture of solidarity through sport as a channel for conveying healthy principles to be taught to children and as all sports should do, but which often, today, give way to exasperated competitiveism . Friendship and esteem, passion and commitment, loyalty and respect for others: this is the path to follow which must necessarily pass through good example”. This is the idea of sport, the very essence of the judoka discipline, according to Fabio La Malfa and Alessandro Possagno, tireless organizers of the Peter Pan Trophy.

And the spirit of solidarity is the hallmark of the entire organization of the Peter Pan Trophy. The referees and jury presidents are convened by the regional committee of FIJLKAM – Italian Judo Wrestling, Karate and Martial Arts Federation thanks to Maestro Antonio Di Maggio, who believes in the high social as well as sporting value of these events. CSEN, thanks to the sensitivity of Maestro Franco Penna, will make the tatami and all the technical competition material available free of charge.

Solidarity, like sport, is learned from childhood and this Tomita School Trophy, which not only trains the body, but also the spirit, is the tangible demonstration of this – declares convinced Maria Teresa Barracano Fasanelli, founder and Honorary President of the Peter Pan Odv Association, which like every year will start the solidarity competition.
