About 1,800 badminton enthusiasts from all over the country gather in Donghae City.

[스포츠서울ㅣ김기원기자] Donghae City (Mayor Shim Gyu-eon) announced that it will hold the ’14th Donghae Mureung Cup Open Badminton Competition’ for two days from Saturday the 9th to Sunday the 10th at the Donghae Gymnasium, National Sports Center, and Yeram Middle School Gymnasium.
This competition, hosted by the Gangwon-do Badminton Association and the Donghae City Badminton Association, will be held with the participation of 1,800 people from 900 teams of sports badminton enthusiasts from all over the country. It is designed to promote harmony and friendship among the club members while showing off the skills they have honed over the years.
The competition is divided by event, age, and grade. The events are men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles; by age, 20s (including the following), 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and above, and grades are based on skill. It is divided into five grades: A, B, C, D, and E.
The opening ceremony will be held at Donghae Gymnasium on Saturday, March 9th at 18:00, and awards will be given to 1st to 3rd place. The city plans to use this competition to promote the region and revitalize the local economy through sports marketing, and to strengthen its status as a premium sports city.
Lee Yong-bin, head of the Physical Education Department, said, “Badminton, which is deeply established as a daily life sport for modern people, is a beneficial sport that can be easily enjoyed by anyone, regardless of age or gender, anytime, anywhere. This competition will compete between badminton lovers from all over the country, promoting communication and harmony as well as promoting Donghae City. “I hope this will serve as an opportunity to spread awareness throughout the country,” he said.
