1. JC Mönchengladbach Men’s Team Dominates in Bundesliga Season Opener, Women’s Team Faces Setback

At the start of the season in the second Judo Bundesliga, the men’s team from 1. JC Mönchengladbach celebrated a 9:5 win against SSF Bonn.

Vlad-Damian Russu (weight class up to 66 kilograms) in his first Bundesliga fight and Raymon de Vos (over 100 kg) gave the Gladbach judoka a 2-0 lead with their confident Ippon victories before Andre Löb (up to 81 kg) was beaten had to give. On the other hand, Khankan managed to defeat his opponent early this time. With two Waza-ari scores, Radtke scored the decisive point to win the duel. Kagermanov then increased the final score to 9:5.

Meanwhile, the women’s team of the 1st JC suffered a setback in the fight for one of the top places in the first Bundesliga. The Gladbach judoka lost 6:8 against the promoted team TSV Hertha Walheim.

After the first round it was 2:5. Only Katrin Brocker (up to 57 kg) and Nina Güth (up to 52 kg) scored points, while Zoe Lottes (up to 63 kg), Anika Baumbach (up to 70 kg) and Polina Reyngold (up to 78 kg) lost to their opponents. The Belgian national team fighters Lotte Petré (up to 48 kg) and Vicky Verschaere (over 78 kg) were also unable to prevail. In the second half, the Gladbach team started to catch up again. Brocker and Güth won their fights again, and Petré and Baumbach also scored points. After further defeats, it was no longer enough for a draw.

On April 13th the women’s team will travel to Post SV Düsseldorf. A win is mandatory. The men’s team’s next fight day is on April 27th, when they host last year’s champion Holten.

Parallel to the Bundesliga match days, European Cups with Gladbach participation took place in Porec, Croatia, and Riga, Latvia. Meanwhile, at the U18 European Cup in Porec, Kirill Gau won the silver medal in the weight class up to 73 kilograms, his second international medal within six months.
