Cologne failed again in the winter

BVB attacker Youssoufa Moukoko has not given up his dream of taking part in the home European Championship despite his mediocre season. “Yes, I think every player looks at it, but in the end I have to deliver the performance in the club. Before the World Cup, no one had expected me and suddenly I was there. “Hope dies last,” said the 19-year-old on “ran”.
Moukoko made his debut for the German senior national team in November 2022 in a 1-0 win in the test against Oman. The youngster was in the squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but only played a minute in the opening game against Japan (1:2) under former national coach Hansi Flick. Afterwards, Moukoko was no longer taken into account and instead played for the DFB U21s. Since September 2023, he has scored six times for Antonio Di Salvo’s selection in the European Championship qualification.
At club level, things are going poorly for Moukoko in 2023/24: The center forward was only on the pitch for Borussia Dortmund in 488 minutes, spread over 21 appearances – and at least he scored four goals. Moukoko was only featured in the starting eleven four times in all competitions. He even played eleven games without being used on the bench. His market value is estimated at 30 million euros ahead of the upcoming Bundesliga update on Wednesday, March 27th.
When asked, Moukoko said there is currently no contact with national coach Julian Nagelsmann. In Dortmund, the offensive man extended his contract until 2026 after a tough contract poker at the beginning of 2023. His playing time with the U21 brought back his joy. Moukoko explained: “Every footballer who doesn’t play is unhappy, there’s no need to talk about it. The more you play, the happier you are. I like being here, when I play, my laughter comes back.”

1. FC Köln failed BVB striker Moukoko for the second time
In the winter, Moukoko almost moved to 1. FC Köln on loan. According to the “Ruhr NewsThe professional had already agreed to a temporary move to the cathedral town team, but the transfer is said to have failed due to financial conditions. A new situation could arise in the summer, although there are currently no concrete thoughts about moving away from Moukoko. “Sport Bild” reported at the beginning of November that Cologne had tried to convince Moukoko of a loan shortly before the summer transfer deadline. However, the FC came too late with the request. After signing Niclas Füllkrug (31), Moukoko didn’t want to be rushed out on loan in the final transfer hours. A few months later, a second attempt apparently failed.
