Zaldívar denies having pressured any judge by order of AMLO – El Sol de México

Former Minister Arturo Zaldívar Lelo de la Rea denied this Thursday that as president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), he had pressured any member of the Federal Judiciary (PJF) to resolve any issue of interest to President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador.

“During the four years that I was president (of the Court) I never spoke nor have I spoken to any judge to any magistrate to suggest, to insinuate, much less to instruct him to rule on a matter in one sense or another,” Zaldívar said in radio interview with journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva.

Regarding whether there was pressure or recommendations from President López Obrador to review any sentence, Zaldívar assured that only out of “courtesy” explanations were provided.

After denying that he had accepted pressure from President López Obrador, Zaldívar argued that “dialogue between powers is not only positive, but necessary.”

The current collaborator of Claudia Sheinbaum’s campaign team added that when he was president of the Court he maintained strict control over the role of the judges.

These statements come after, yesterday, Wednesday, President López Obrador stated in his morning that when Zaldívar was Minister President of the Court, he approached him to persuade judges not to release people with an open criminal process.

Given this statement, the Mexican Bar disapproved of López Obrador’s alleged interference in the decisions of the PJF, when Zaldívar was the president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation and the Federal Judiciary Council.
