Rome- Yuri Ferrigno wins the bronze medal at the Bwf Para Badminton World Championships 2024 in Pattaya, Thailand.
The Italian, paired with the Peruvian Jauregui Cancino, after beating the Thai pair Maiwijit – Phraikaeo 21-9 22-14 in the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles, surrendered in the semi-final to the Chinese Zi Mo and Yu Tong (21-9, 21 -6).
“I would have liked to do better than the previous world championship but the draw wasn’t favourable, given that in the semi-final we found the Chinese LIU Yu Tong and YIN Meng Lu – declared Yuri Ferrigno – even in the singles the draw didn’t go well: in the round of 16 I found the Chinese QU Zi Mo, who then won the tournament. In view of Paris 2024 I hope for the distribution of the three slots, in this way I would be sure of participating”.
As for the other results, Piero Rosario Suma’s progress in the men’s singles was interrupted in the round of 16: the Italian lost against the Japanese Matsumoto 21-4, 21-7.
Similar fate for Yuri Ferrigno, who had to succumb to the blows of the Chinese QU Zi Mo 21-12, 21-11.
After having reached the round of 16, Rosa De Marco lost in the round of 16 in the women’s singles against the Portuguese Beatriz Monteiro: the Italian fought but lost 21-11, 21-18.
After a very balanced first set and lost only to advantages, the mixed doubles team made up of our Vincenzo Contemi and the German Annika Schroeder also loses: the Indians Kumar – Moahn win 22-20, 21-11.
