Xhaka’s Goal Celebration Scare: Why Did Leverkusen Panic?

Leverkusen

Granit Xhaka be a victorious hero Bayer Leverkusen above Mainz. However, Xhaka’s goal celebration made the team panic. Why?

Leverkusen host Mainz at the BayArena, Saturday (24/2/2024) early morning WIB. Xhaka opened Leverkusen’s lead in the third minute when he received Alejandro Grimaldo’s pass at the front of the penalty box.

Xhaka immediately shot the ball with his left foot and it soared into the top right corner of the Mainz goal. Mainz equalized the score through Dominik Kohr in the eighth minute.

Robert Andrich ensured Leverkusen’s victory with a score of 2-1 in the 68th minute. Leverkusen maintained its position at the top of the Bundesliga with an 11-point advantage over Bayern Munich and set a new record.

Regarding Xhaka’s goal, this was his first in the Bundesliga since September 2015. At that time, Xhaka was still playing for Borussia Moenchengladbach before finally moving to Arsenal.

There was something unique about Xhaka’s goal celebration when he looked as if he was in pain holding the back of his left thigh after jogging. He limped when his teammates approached him.

After that, Xhaka smiled broadly and celebrated with the other players. Suddenly the sight panicked the Leverkusen medical staff on the sidelines.

Coach Xabi Alonso then detained two medical staff and told them that Xhaka was just playing around, not really injured.

“I often do it during training. So after 8-9 months at this club, they should already know what kind of person I am. But the most important thing is that we won and got three important points,” said Xhaka as quoted by the official Bundesliga website.

Ah, that’s all there is to it, Xhaka.
