World Championship medalist Katirs has been temporarily disqualified for violating anti-doping rules

The AIU said the athlete had been informed, without giving further details.

Athletes must report their location to allow for unscheduled doping tests. Failure to provide information three times can lead to temporary disqualification and a possible ban from participating in competitions for up to two years.

Katir maintained his innocence in a statement quoted by the Spanish sports media “AS”.

“In the few failed attempts to locate me reported by the AIU, I was at the place, date and time I stated,” Katir said.

“In the last months and years, I have performed many unplanned doping tests – both urine and blood. There have not been any problems from my side,” the runner said.

The 25-year-old athlete won silver medals in the 5,000-meter distance at the world and European championships in 2022, but last year he won a bronze medal in the 1,500-meter race at the world championships.
