This Wednesday evening, Kylian Mbappé’s teammates beat Brest (3-1) in the round of 16.

Paris SG-Brest 3-1
Paris SG : Mbappé (34e), Danilo (37e), Ramos (90e+2)
Brest : Mounié (65e)

A qualification, but still a few questions. One week before hosting Real Sociedad in the Champions League, PSG validated its ticket for the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France, at the expense of Brest (3-1). The capital club alternated between the good and the more worrying during this clash of the eighth.

Paris battered, but Paris effective

Author of surprising choices in his latest compositions, Luis Enrique has this time aligned a quasi-typical eleven, without surprise or invention in the positioning of his players. A readable 4-3-3, but mishandled during a large part of the first period. Without complexes, Brest imposed its pressure and created huge chances. Saved by his post on a shot from Satriano (29th), Donnarumma had to pull out all the stops in front of Magnetti (30th). The turning point of the meeting. Suffering behind, PSG nevertheless knew how to be effective in making the difference before the break. Mbappé, still aligned at the forefront, relieved his team by opening the scoring after a good recovery from Dembélé (1-0, 34th). In the process, the former Barcelonnais again made the difference individually before serving Danilo, a close scorer for a ruthlessly realistic Paris (2-0, 37th).

This time, Brest does not come back

In a comfortable position at the break, PSG focused mainly on maintaining control of the game in the second half. Luis Enrique’s men monopolized the ball for a long time, but they were finally surprised shortly after the hour mark. Mounié revived his team by scoring with a header (2-1, 65th). The start of a stunning scenario? Not this time. Unlike the draw snatched on January 28 in Ligue 1 (2-2), SB29 never seemed able to catch up. The fault in particular was the expulsion of Brassier, who immediately cut off the momentum of the Breton club (69th). Mbappé, hit in the ankle by a final foul by the Brest defender, was able to finish the match. And if his numerous attempts at the end of the match remained in vain (82nd, 85th, 88th), the Parisian star was at the origin of the third Parisian goal, signed by Ramos in added time (3-1, 90th + 2).

Qualified for the quarter-finals, PSG will be on deck against Lille on Saturday in Ligue 1. A final rehearsal before the long-awaited meeting against Real Sociedad. Many details are still to be resolved for the capital club, expected at the turn in C1. One more time.
