“Without a civic list, independence will stay at home and govern the Island or vote for Orriols”

Barcelona The ANC’s proposal to promote a civic list continues to arouse very divergent passions among its members, as was seen this Thursday in one of the few debates with a speaker in favor of the civic list and another against. Although the colloquium was organized by the Sants-Montjuïc territory, the only one that has publicly shown itself in favor of presenting a battle in Parliament, Joan Carles Manzanero, ex-secretary and spokesman for the critical group Indesinenter, has not played away from home as feared. Numerous attendees have shown their doubts to present a list.

Joan Mollà, defender of yes, recalled that more than 700,000 pro-independence voters who voted on December 21, 2017 stayed at home on February 14, 2021 to defend the need to present an alternative. “It is a bleeding that must be stopped. Without the civic list, independence will stay at home and govern the Island or vote for other lists like Orriols that do not quite satisfy us,” he pointed out. The santsenc has stressed that getting a few deputies “can remove the stagnant waters of the Parliament”.

Manzanero, who has warned that there will be a fourth, a fifth and a sixth independentist space no matter what the ANC does, has lowered expectations: “Solidarity with Laporta as the head of the list got 100,000 votes and only four deputies with a financing that ruined López Tena”. The ex-secretary has precisely accused Solidaritat, in which Uriel Bertran is a member, of being behind the initiative: “The majority party in the secretariat is Solidaritat, which has just presented the ILP to lift the DUI, and which has already said that it will not will be presented and that gives full support to the civic list”.

Mollà replied that the organization “has always been colonized by the parties” and recalled that Carme Forcadell ended up at ERC and Jordi Sánchez at Junts. In fact, he regretted that Junts pel Sí’s candidacy, which received the support of the Assembly, did not accumulate the criticism that the civic list is now receiving. “The parties are afraid,” he concluded. The fear of the critics, on the other hand, is the loss of the transversality of the entity. “The civic list can lead to the disappearance of the Assembly because it is already touched by death,” said Manzanero, who recalled that of the 2,000 coaches for the Day in 2015, only 150 came this year and that the number of members it keeps going down.

Supporters of making the jump to Parliament maintain that it is the paralysis of the Process that is ending the Assembly. “The parties have demobilized us and the Assembly can no longer act as a haystack when the straw is scattered”, said Mollà, who has defended the civic list as “depressing” after six years in office. “And will there be thousands of people outside the Parliament when you claim the DUI?” Manzanero asked him in front of the discomfort of the auditorium.
