Walcher wins gold at the Junior World Championships in Planica

Paul Walcher has been crowned junior world champion in Nordic combined. The 18-year-old won the gold medal in Planica on Friday after a strong jump ahead of the German Tristan Sommerfeldt (+16.8) and the Norwegian Jens Dahlseide Kvamme (+19.5). Jonas Fischbacher (+35.4) in fifth place and second place jumper Andreas Gfrerer (+45.2) in seventh place ran past the medal ranks in the 10 km cross-country skiing.

“It was a perfect day, I couldn’t have imagined it better,” said Walcher, who entered the trail with a comfortable lead of 42 seconds after a jump of 92.5 m, full of joy. “The jump was flawless and I started out with a lead. It couldn’t have gone better.” Walcher won the bronze medal last year.
