The Pioneers Vorarlberg have won their first knockout game in club history and have laid a good foundation for promotion to the quarter-finals of the win2day ICE Hockey League. The Vorarlbergers won the first game of the “best of three” series against the TWK Innsbruck Haien 6:3 (2:1 3:2 1:0) in the pre-play-off on Sunday. The Pioneers can move into the quarter-finals on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.) with home advantage in Feldkirch.
Innsbruck chose Vorarlberg as their opponent because of their strong record in the direct duels. Of all things, the Haie suffered their first home defeat in their first meeting in the knockout phase. The guests extended an early 2-1 lead (8th) to 4-1 with a double strike in the middle third by Joonas Oden (24th) and Luca Erne (26th) and then always maintained at least a two-goal lead.
