Violent Gang Attack Injures Two at French Restaurant

(Keystone-ATS) Two people were injured by stab wounds on Sunday evening at the Quick restaurant in Schiltigheim (Bas-Rhin) during an episode of violence resembling a settling of scores between rival gangs, we learned from the police.

“We were called to what appears to be a fight. On site, there were five victims who said they had been attacked by a gang of around fifteen young people, with their faces hidden,” a spokesperson for the Bas-Rhin police told AFP. “There were hits with baseball bats, stabbings, and (use of) tear gas. They did not attack other consumers.”

“One of the victims was stabbed in the ribs and is believed to have a punctured lung. Another was stabbed in the thigh. Both have bleeding wounds, but their vital prognosis is not engaged,” continued the spokesperson. The two injured people were admitted to hospital.

Shocked employees

“It could be a settling of scores between rival gangs, but at this stage nothing has been decided,” concluded the spokesperson. A judicial investigation was opened and surveys were carried out by the technical and scientific police. Witness interviews were conducted on Monday, as well as an analysis of video surveillance.

Images filmed by witnesses and posted on social networks show violence committed by hooded people against customers and against restaurant furniture.

“We are going to put in place reinforced security measures to guarantee the safety of our staff and our customers,” Quick management told AFP, while requesting “measures from the authorities to protect the commercial area of ​​this kind of event”.

“Even if no employee was injured, the entire restaurant team is extremely shocked by this event. We have a special thought towards our employees who may be feeling a complex range of emotions in the face of this incident,” the brand continued, announcing that a “psychological support” system would be put in place “as soon as possible”.
