With Virgil van Dijk scoring in extra time, the Liverpool team won the English League (EFL) Cup for the tenth time in their history on Sunday. In the final between “Liverpool” and London “Chelsea” teams at Wembley Stadium, the regular time ended in a draw 0:0 (0:0), but Van Dijk’s goal in extra time resulted in a 1:0 victory.

Both teams were not awarded a goal in regular time due to situations at the back. Although there were many moments, the only goal was scored in the 118th minute of the game, when van Dijk headed the ball into the far corner of the goal after a corner kick.

Liverpool won the title, despite the fact that several key players could not help the team due to injuries, including goalkeeper Alison Becker, whose duties this time were performed by Kwemin Keller. Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Dominic Soboslai, Diogo Jota and other players were also missing.

“Liverpool” also defeated the Londoners last year both in the final of the League Cup and in the title match of the FA Cup.

Manchester United won the trophy last year, beating Newcastle United 2-0 in the title match.
