Valencia Basket attacks the Palau Blaugrana with a demonstration of character

Valencia Basket overcame a 14-point deficit this Sunday thanks to a 0-19 partial in the second half and attacked the Palau Blaugrana (76-79) with a demonstration of character led by Jaime Pradilla (15 points) and Semi Ojeleye (17).

Despite playing without natural centers due to the injuries of Brandon Davies and Boubacar Touré, the team coached by Álex Mumbrú won the battle for the rebound (31 to 34) and did a lot of damage in the paint to Barça, which had Willy Hernangómez (16 ) and Jabari Parker (12) as their top scorers.

The Barça team dominated the first round with minimal advantages thanks to the scoring in the paint by Da Silva, first, and Hernangómez, later (15-9, min.8), but Valencia Basket equalized the score at the end of the opening quarter ( 19-19), driven by Jones and Ojeleye.

Denied in the triple (2 of 9) and thick in the static attack, the taronja team struggled to contain Parker (10 points in the quarter, top scorer at halftime), but tightened the screws in defense and scored in transition, with a Anderson’s prominent role at both ends of the court, to tighten the score at the end of the first half (40-31, min.19; 40-38, half-time).

After the intermission, Mumbrú took less than a minute to call a timeout after a 2+1 by Hernangómez and a triple by Brizuela, but the break did not alter the rhythm of a Barça that was much more aggressive at both ends of the court and that scored with ease with dunks from Hernangómez, Da Silva and Satornansky.

Mumbrú was forced to stop the game again (56-44, min.25) to ask his players for more intensity, who this time did react. Valencia Basket toughened its paint defense against a Barça team that failed to shoot and turned the result around with a 0-19 run driven by baskets from Pradilla and Jovic, and three triples from Ojeleye and Robertson (58-63, min. 31).

Barça responded through Vesely (68-68, min.35), but the inertia was favorable to the visiting team, which gritted its teeth in defense, dominated the rebound and connected in the paint with Pradilla and Ojeleye to take the win ( 76-79). Laprovittola missed the triple at the buzzer that would have forced overtime.
