UEMC Real Valladolid Reunites with Victory: A Pleasant Win to Break the Streak

The UEMC Real Valladolid was reunited with victory, a pleasant victory to appease and at least cure that kind of catatonic state in which, perhaps, unnaturally, he has been involved in recent times. After a complicated and ‘hectic’ week, with returns (Torres), exits through the back door (Costa), confirmation of the worst omens with Royo’s injury and with siren songs launched from the powerful students launching the cane on Devin Schmidt, Real Valladolid Baloncesto needed, more than ever, to be itself again, a competitive team that showed hunger and desire from the outside. That was enough to break the resistance of a rival, Cáceres, with the noose around his neck and marked as a candidate for relegation.

THE WORLD

On a day when cinema was the protagonist in Valladolid for the celebration of the Goya Awards, a film, Despertares (1990; with Robert de Niro and Robin Williams) could well summarize the return to life of the UEMC Real Valladolid to forget that black streak of results that has led him not only to open the box of doubts but to lose that head train that he was on not long ago.

And as it could not be otherwise, the awakening of UEMC Real Valladolid coincided, coincidence or not, with the return of Mike Torres. The starting point guard, after eight weeks in the dry dock, was levodopa, a precursor of dopamine, the medication that made a UEMC Real Valladolid team react (we’ll see if temporarily) who, although it took many minutes to feel comfortable on the hardwood, two entire quarters, the game ended as if it had been a bath and massage, with a bloody partial of 21-4 in the third quarter, which sentenced the impotent Cáceres.

Cáceres survived while his white and purple rival played truant on the defensive rebound. His second and third options led him to equalize a game (23-23) with fair shotguns on both teams (3 of 16 and 2 of 13 in triples, respectively, at halftime). It was the start of the third act that returned that logic that UEMC RVB could not hold on to in previous games.

Finally dominating the paint by taking advantage of the versatility of their interior game, with five centers sharing the minutes without slowing down the pace and precision, Paco García’s team went straight to the tune set by their snipers, first with Devin Schmidt and then with Kovacevic (16 points each), in a state of grace and infallible in one-on-ones and in outside shooting.

Cáceres, powerless, could do little. Nothing. The timeouts trying to stop the game didn’t contribute either. Former Blanquivioleta Greg Gantt may have been under the pressure of wanting to please Pisuerga on his return and only Atencia knew how to live up to it in a predictable and short-lived team.

THE WORLD

With the game broken and with the public also waking up, the last quarter became a continuous back and forth with exchange of baskets from both teams in which logically the team that won by twenty points benefited, a UEMC Real Valladolid that recovers the smile (99-72).
