Two Brothers Indicted for Murder of Construction Worker: White March Planned at Scene of Tragedy

This Tuesday, February 27, two brothers aged 37 and 50 were indicted for murder and violence with more than 8 days of ITT. They are suspected of having killed Anthony Boulier, a construction worker living in Monterfil. The Rennes public prosecutor’s office requested their placement in pre-trial detention. The detention judge will decide in the evening.

According to the first elements of the investigation, after having drunk several drinks on Saturday February 24, Anthony Boulier and a hunter friend went to park their vehicle at a place called Simon, in Saint-Thurial, in front of the land where the two accused live . Fifteen days earlier, the deceased victim had had a first altercation with them for parking in a parking lot not far from their home.

On the evening of the incident, Anthony, “who was angry with them” according to the statements of the other victim, parked his vehicle in front of the defendants’ land and honked his horn. Then he continued on his way but was intercepted by the two brothers driving a BMW. Armed with a baseball bat, the older brother hit the two friends. Wounded in the face, Anthony’s friend escaped with ten days of ITT. Anthony Boulier was severely beaten, particularly on the face and head. He died on the spot.

Construction worker, Anthony Boulier had lived in Monterfil for four years but was originally from Treffendel. Father of a three-year-old child and a second in a few weeks, the young man had been a volunteer on the Saint-Péran festival committee for around ten years. He was also a hunter in Saint-Thurial.

Convicted of violence with a weapon following noise pollution

“The attackers were known to be irascible,” says a source close to the investigation. “The eldest, aged 50, without profession, has already been convicted in 2012 and 2016 for traffic offences,” said Philippe Astruc, the public prosecutor. Still following the same pattern of disproportionate reactions to the noise pollution that they were experiencing, he was convicted of acts of violence with a weapon during the summer of 2019 but he appealed. »

David Moizan, the mayor of Saint-Thurial, specifies: “On three occasions, we called these residents to order. They had insulted people who were driving on the small municipal road which leads to their land. They had no right to prohibit passage. The facts date back two years. »

Commemoration at the scene of the tragedy Saturday at 10 a.m.

Originally from the Maurepas district of Rennes, the two suspects had lived for several years in a caravan and a shed on land purchased by their father. The latter, a worker, had discovered Saint-Thurial while participating in the construction of the dam. He then purchased land there. The younger brother, a truck driver, joined his elder there during the confinement imposed during the Covid 19 crisis.

In the Saint-Thurial region, the population is “stunned” by “such a degree of violence”, according to the mayor. A white march is planned for this Saturday March 2 at 10 a.m. at the place called Simon where the murder took place. The police will stop traffic until 12 p.m. “We are expecting several hundred people,” whispers a soldier.
