“TTT Rīga” women’s basketball team does not make it out of the quarterfinals of the FIBA Eurocup

“Umana Reyer” also celebrated six successes in the group, beating the Swiss club “Elfic” from Fribourg, 155:114, in the first round of the playoffs, in the sum of two games, and in the second round, they defeated “Arka” from Poland, 157:127.

Founded in 1872, the Venice club has won the Italian championship twice and played in the Euroleague three times. In the previous season, the Venetians reached the semi-finals of the Eurocup, where they lost to Galatasaray 118:134 in the sum of two games.

The Italian team has also applied for the tournament the 17-year-old center player Dartas Ivanis, who has not yet played in the Eurocup.

Both teams have met in European Cups for five seasons since 2008. In 2008, the teams exchanged victories in the Euroleague, in 2016, the Venetians were superior in both 1/16 final games, but in the decisive Euroleague qualifying games of 2018, the Rigas were superior, who later reached the quarterfinals.

In the 2019/2020 season affected by Covid-19, the Venetians won the first game, but “TTT Riga” did not go to the return game. On the other hand, in the 2021/2022 season, TTT Riga was superior in both matches in the Euroleague.

“TTT Riga” did not pass the FIBA Euroleague qualification at the beginning of this season, continuing the season in the second strongest club tournament in Europe.

The two best teams of each group and eight of the 12 third-placed teams qualified for the Eurocup playoffs. The playoffs began in mid-December, and to win the cup, five rounds of the competition had to be won, with the winner determined by the aggregate of two games.

Last season, TTT Rīga did not play in the Euroleague or the Eurocup, but took first place in the Baltic Women’s Basketball League (BSBL) and the Latvian Championship.
