Travis Kelce Calls Out Justin Tucker for Violating ‘Unwritten Rule’ in Pregame Warmup

Travis Kelce said Justin Tucker violated an “unwritten rule” by stretching and placing his equipment where Patrick Mahomes was warming up, adding that the Ravens kicker was “waking the bear » before the American Association championship game.

“If you want to be a damn ****, you keep your helmet, your ball and your damn base right where the quarters are warming up. […] If you’re not going to pick them up, I’ll be happy to move them for you,” Kelce said Wednesday on the latest episode of his “New Heights” podcast with his brother Jason Kelce.

Video shows Mahomes throwing Tucker’s base and Kelce kicking Baltimore Ravens kicker’s footballs and throwing his helmet away from where Mahomes was warming up before Sunday’s game, which the Chiefs won 17 to 10.

Kelce explained the usual pre-game routine, where each team gets half the court to warm up. Kickers are allowed to work on both sides of the field to account for wind and other weather conditions, but Kelce clarified that they must stay clear of opposing players when venturing to the other side .

“Justin came out and said it was more of a joke and kind of a fun, competitive move, and I get it,” Kelce said. “He winked at me, he acted stupid, he tried to reach me. We weren’t in the mood for jokes. We were ready for the match. »

Mahomes said Tuesday that Tucker was the only kicker to violate those unwritten rules during his NFL career.

“I’ve been doing the same warmup routine for seven years and there’s only been three occasions where a kicker hasn’t gotten out of the way,” Mahomes told Kansas City radio station KCSP. “It was in Baltimore all three times. »

Mahomes added that he thought Tucker was trying to “get after us,” adding that he was going to ignore it, “but Travis made him move for me.”

Tucker said Monday that he considered the pregame incident to be part of the game and that it was a “good joke.” But Kelce responded that Tucker’s antics could have consequences.

“Justin, sorry if we reached a level that you didn’t think we would reach,” said the star tight end. “But if you want to act stupid, I can outdo you every time.” […] Don’t make me out to be the bad guy. He was trying to wake up with the bear.”
