Topuria Challenges McGregor After Knocking Volkanovski

KOMPAS.com – Ilia Topuria challenged Conor McGregor after defeating Alexander Volkanovski in the UFC 298 main event.

Fighting at the Honda Center, Anaheim, California, United States, on Sunday (18/2/2024) afternoon WIB, Ilia Topuria won by knockout over Alexander Volkanovski in the fight for the featherweight title.

At that time, Ilia Topuria launched a series of attacks on Alex Volkanovski who was already cornered.

This Georgian-Spanish fighter then landed a hard right jab which landed on Alex Volkanovski’s right jaw.

Volkanovski was helpless after receiving a hard blow from Topuria. The 35 year old fighter then collapsed in the octagon.

As a result, Topuria succeeded in overthrowing Volkanovski, who has reigned in the featherweight class since defeating Max Holloway at UFC 245 on December 14 2019.

UFC CEO, Dana White, revealed that his party wants the UFC duel to take place in Spain to show Topuria’s action in defending his champion title.

“I want to go to Spain,” said Dana White, quoted from ESPN on Sunday (18/2/2024).

“If there is an arena available, we will go there,” said the 54-year-old man.

After that, Topuria revealed that he wanted to fight against Conor McGregor.

“Conor McGregor, if you still have the guts, I will wait for you in Spain,” added the Gregorian-Spanish fighter.

Meanwhile, Topuria explained that the victory against Volkanovski could not be separated from his self-confidence.

“Take a guess? “The only person who supports you in this life is yourself,” said the fighter nicknamed El Matador.

“Just believe in yourself and anything will be possible. Look at me now.”
