Toni Kroos Undecided on Future with Real Madrid and Germany National Team

Toni Kroos says he has not yet decided on his future with Real Madrid on the Germany national team.

Kroos is out of contract at Madrid in June and though he retired from international duty in 2021, The Athletic reported earlier this year that the 34-year-old is considering a return to the Germany side ahead of a European Championship on home soil this summer.

“I always tell you the truth, and the truth is that I don’t know,” Kroos said on his Madrid future. “I’m thinking about it, I haven’t decided anything.

“You can say that I’m very happy that a lot of people want me to continue, better than the opposite. I feel good.

“I have to make decisions, think a lot about what I will do. To tell you the truth, I haven’t decided whether to renew or return to the Germany team.

“It depends on a lot of things, also on my personal plans: I always said I wanted to finish my career at a very high level. I’m happy with the decision I made last year.

“To go back to Germany? I’m thinking about it. It’s a possibility.”

Kroos was speaking with Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti ahead of the Champions League last-16 first leg game at RB Leipzig tomorrow.

“He will make his decision (on his Madrid future) and we have to respect it,” Ancelotti added.

“You have to stop at the top, as I see it. He has to choose the right time. His performance has always been the same, he hasn’t had highs and lows.

“Recommendation (on returning to the Germany team)? I don’t know.

“Toni Kroos has the right to decide what he wants, it’s an important competition and it could be good for him. We respect his decisions.”
