“There could have been a death”: Julian Palmieri recounts the attack suffered by his team during an amateur match

Perhaps he thought he had seen it all, after 14 seasons in professional football. But he was far from it. This Sunday, during a Regional 3 match of the Corsican League (8th level), Julian Palmieri, 37, found himself in the middle of a general fight of a magnitude that he had certainly never experienced known. While his team, FC Lupinu, faced rivals AS Cargèse, the former Bastiais and his teammates were violently attacked by their opponents. An episode that he told to the Team.

“It degenerated into an everyday mistake,” explains Palmieri. My team’s stopper prevents the Cargèse attacker from turning around, without tackling. The referee calls a foul. When our player returns, Cargèse number 8 gets in his way and gives him a shoulder push. Our stopper reacted with a kick and it started in a fight. »

In addition to his teammate, Julian Palmieri and his coach were also beaten up while trying to separate the two teams. “I take one in my mouth,” he says. Then there were two, three, four, five of them on me. I push back one, two, but I’m not Superman. I curled up into a ball to take the blows. My coach ran to get between them and me. And it came back strong. The 8, again, gives him a right. My coach falls and number 2 volleys him in the head. » The fight will end there. Unconscious and taken to hospital, Lupinu’s trainer will be prescribed ten days of ITT.

Despite the seriousness of the facts, Julian Palmieri insisted not to file a complaint for assault and battery. “My coach did it,” he assured. Not me. I have a lot of respect for amateurs and it bothers me to fall into that. » However, he hopes for sanctions. “I want everyone to assume their responsibilities,” asks the ex-Paris FC player. If our goalkeeper doesn’t throw himself at our coach, he could take a bad hit and end his days paralyzed. There could even have been a death. » It is now up to the FFF disciplinary committee to decide on the consequences of this sad incident.
