Then some good news: Zinho Vanheusden will not suffer any back fractures from a heavy fall during Union-Standard, but will have to remain in hospital

Standard lost 2-1 at competition leader Union on Sunday evening on matchday 27 in the Jupiler Pro League. Not the only blow that the Rouches had to deal with, because they lost Zinho Vanheusden in extra time of the first half. The Belgian defender landed badly in an aerial duel with Union striker Gustaf Nilsson and fellow defender Gilles Dewaele and had to be helped off the field with a stretcher.

Misfortune lurks around the corner. Zinho Vanheusden (24) knows this all too well. The Hasselaar made his comeback in the Dudenpark after an overuse injury, but did not make it to the end of the first half. After an unfortunate collision with teammate Dewaele, Vanheusden remained motionless. With tears in his eyes, the rest of his face cramped by the pain. With due care, he was stabilized by the medical teams of both clubs, placed on a stretcher and carried off the field. From there it went straight to the Erasmus hospital in Anderlecht for a scan.

A few hours after his accident, the reassuring news came that the pain was not from the impact of the fall, but from a hernia. Vanheusden has to stay in the hospital overnight and is given morphine for the pain. Still good news, as the defender was still unable to move more than an hour after the match.
