The Return of Patrick Mouratoglou: Holger Rune’s Coaching Journey

How many turns life takes, let them tell Holger Rune and Patrick Mouratoglou. The Dane will count on the French coach again ten months after announcing his separation and after a period full of comings and goings on the part of his different coaches.

Neither Boris Becker nor Severin Luthe, it is finally confirmed that Holger and Patrick will work together again and that the Frenchman will once again be their main coach, as published by Tennis Majors. Mouratoglou and Rune began working for the first time in 2022, a time when the Dane won his second title in Stockholm or won his best trophy to date in that Paris-Bercy Masters 1000, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final.

Even so, Holger wanted to go one step further, always pointing out his great ambitions and goals. They had already had some threat of separation before, but it was in the month of April 2023 when Rune officially said goodbye to the person who had been his coach. In the month of October, Boris Becker joined the young man’s work team with an immediate impact, although this has not lasted over time. The Dane’s irregularity was still present and Boris decided to abandon him at the beginning of this February, days after it became public that Severin Luthe was also no longer part of the team.

That ambition that has accompanied Holger in recent months has been decisive in having Mouratoglou again: “Everyone knows that I am determined to win Grand Slam titles and reach number one in the world. This requires having the right coaching association and team around me. Sometimes you have to try several things to find out what works and what doesn’t.”, explains Rune himself. “Over the past few months I have learned a lot about what works for me and I believe Patrick is the best person to lead the team and help me achieve my goals.”. Mouratoglou will be the head coach, while Kenneth Carlsen will help the team with whatever they need.

Mike James, data analyst, will continue in his role, while Lapo Beccherini, member of the Mouratoglou Academy, also joins. “I am excited to start a new collaboration with Holger”, dice Patrick. “We’ve known each other since I was 13 and I’ve always believed in his potential. He has big goals, and so do I for him. It’s the beginning of a new adventure”. This will begin in Acapulco, where Rune defends the semifinals, Indian Wells and Miami.
