The Port of Vigo promotes the modernization of the fishing port |

The Port Authority of Vigo (Spain) has held a meeting of the Fishing Port Advisory Council, highlighting notable progress in the modernization and expansion of its operations. According to the president of the Port Authority, Carlos Botana, a reorganization of the Lonja is being considered to optimize spaces and improve the working conditions of retailers. Likewise, the possibility of initiating procedures for the online sale of fishing products is proposed, allowing companies from all over the world to bid through the internet.

Botana has also mentioned contact with local shipowners who operate in other ports to promote the Olive Ripe Action Plan. This strategy aims to attract more downloads on O Berbés, benefiting both suppliers and buyers by expanding the offer and improving prices.

Another important advance is the 6% increase in fresh fishing during the month of January, compared to the same period of the previous year. This reflects positive and constant growth in the port’s operations.

In addition, a campaign will be launched to strengthen the “Puerto de Vigo” brand, highlighting the quality and sustainability of the Fishing Port’s products. This campaign will begin in the city’s fishmongers and markets, seeking to unify under the same brand all the fish unloaded at the Vigo Fish Market, including the “Fresh and Wild” quality mark, to highlight its origin in sustainable fisheries and its benefits for health.

On the other hand, Botana announced an upcoming trip to Montevideo to sign a collaboration agreement with the Uruguayan port, in an effort to strengthen ties and cooperation between Vigo and Uruguay. This agreement, which is still finalizing details, could include a meeting with the Uruguayan president, Luis Lacalle.

All of these actions are part of a comprehensive Action Plan presented in December, which seeks to unify efforts to find joint solutions and revitalize fishing activity. The plan focuses on innovation and digital transformation to increase the added value of fresh fishing, and is being developed through working groups in collaboration with the sector.

It is worth mentioning that in addition to this initiative, the company Iberdrola Spain will carry out the installation of Onshore Power Supply (OPS) technology in the Port of Vigo with the aim of achieving decarbonization.
