The NBA Trade Deadline: Analysis and Predictions

In a recent podcast Adrian Wojnarowski and Bobby Marks took stock of the NBA market, with just over 24 hours left until the trade deadline.

The last week so far has been decidedly uneventful, due to various factors. One of them is that there isn’t much interest in the picks of the next draft.

According to many insiders, the 2024 Draft Class will be among the weakest of the last period, and this means that the franchises have focused more on adding future picks from 2025 onwards.

Furthermore, with the new rules on the second Apron, many contenders will hold on to their picks as they are increasingly important for building future rosters.

Finally, a widely predictable factor, that is, a market with many more ‘buyers’ than ‘sellers’.

Several teams are still in contention for the postseason, with the 4 extra places guaranteed by the Play-In having widened the race (perhaps too much?).

As a result, the few that are not interested in playing more than 82 games (6/7 teams more or less) try to exploit the ‘desperation’ of the others by asking higher prices than usual for their players.

However, time is running out, we expect at least one ‘Deadline Day’ equal to the previous ones.
