The Maison des Sports du Calvados in action

Inaugurated on February 20, the Calvados Departmental Sports Center now houses 28 committees and 18 leagues, allowing Calvados sport to develop in good conditions.

100 days before the Olympic flame passes through the department, Calvados has chosen to celebrate this counter by inaugurating its brand new Departmental Sports House this February 20. Freshly built, this sports structure has hosted 28 committees and 18 leagues in Hérouville-Saint-Clair, a town near Caen, since the end of January.

Create synergy between sports stakeholders

Initiated in 2017 and imagined with and for the departmental committees and regional leagues, the Maison Départementale des Sports consists of becoming a real welcoming place for those involved in Calvadosian sport. It allows the different sporting disciplines of the region to be hosted under the same roof in order to facilitate the work of the 46 member associations and their volunteers.

Indeed, 28 committees and 18 leagues, from a very wide range of disciplines, reside within this new 2,800 m2 structure. To accommodate them, the House is made up of 46 permanent offices, two shared offices, two meeting rooms, a co-working space and 50 storage boxes.

The objectives of this House are numerous. Among them, we find the desire to create synergy in favor of the development of Calvadosian sport, the ambition to bring together the different players in sport, the territorial sports project around the priorities of a strong departmental sports policy and the desire to define a sports laboratory. For leagues and committees, the structure represents both a place of information and resources and both events and practical aids.

Started in September 2022, the work to build this Departmental Sports Center was completed at the end of 2023. The project will have cost more than 7 million euros, of which two million were financed by the State as part of the France Relance system.
