The Future of SD Worx: Will Kopecky and Vollering Stay?

SD Worx is of course the best team in the women’s peloton, where they also have the two best riders in their ranks with Lotte Kopecky and Demi Vollering. The question, however, is whether this will still be the case in the future.

After all, the contracts of both riders expire after this season, and there were also rumors about a transfer. Kopecky himself indicated that he was open to a departure, Vollering had already received an offer of 1 million euros from Team UAE, Tadej Pogacar’s team. General manager Danny Stam responds to the issue at GCN.

“I don’t know exactly how it works, I am not their manager but the sports director. I read the same stories and I also think it is a lot of money.” And then of course it concerns the rumors of a transfer from Vollering to Team UAE. “She is one of the best riders of the moment, so we certainly want to keep her, but not at the price of one million euros.”

TRANSFER IS POSSIBLE

Stam immediately indicated that there are limits at SD Worx. Something the Dutchman repeats again. “We want to keep Demi but not for a blank check. It is clear that we want to continue with the decisive riders within our team. But if someone is not happy, they can leave. That’s how the world works and we have limits on our budgets.”

There is still a lot of work to be done at SD Worx, or so it seems. For example, with Femke Gerritse, Marie Schreiber and Lorena Wiebes, barely 3 riders would already have a contract for 2025. So 13 riders would not have one yet. “There may be more with a contract, but I can’t say anything more about them,” Stam remains mysterious about this. “We are working on the contracts,” he concludes.
