The first undisputed heavyweight title fight with four belts will once again have to wait after Tyson Fury was forced to withdraw. A cut suffered during sparring has pulled WBC titleholder and lineal world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury from his February 17 fight against Oleksandr Usyk. This was announced on Friday by Queensberry Promotions, which represents Tyson Fury.

During a special breaking news edition of The MMA Hour, the Saudi royal adviser – and promoter of the Fury vs. Usyk – Turki Alalshikh that the match will now take place on May 18. As an incentive, Alalshikh stated that if any of the wrestlers withdraw from this deadline, there will be an astronomical fine of 10 million dollars!

“If Usyk gets scared, I’ll make Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury,” Alalshikh said. “If Tyson is scared, I’ll call any fighter Usyk wants and my name is on this thing. We have a guarantee from both sides and they know it now.” The venue of the fight remains the same, with Fury and Usyk facing off in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Alalshikh stated that the event scheduled for February 17, where the heavyweight bout was to take place, would not take place.

There was also talk this week that Usyk could remain on the February 17 card to face challenger Filip Hrgovic. However, Saudi Arabian royal advisor Turki Alalshikh later announced that the Fury vs. Usyk will be postponed to a later date and tickets will be returned to the public. Alalshikh said on Saturday that Hrgovic will be able to fight on the March 8 card. Additionally, Alalshikh announced that a light heavyweight title unification bout between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol will take place on June 1 in Riyadh.
