The 51st Italian Indoor Archery Championship Presented in Pordenone

51st Italian indoor championship “Memorial Giggi Cartoni” Pordenone Fair, 15-18 February 2024 the Pordenone Indoor Tricolors presented The 51st Italian Indoor Archery Championship was presented today in Pordenone with the highest local and federal authorities.

From Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th February the Pordenone Fair will host the Italian Indoor Archery Championships for the first time. Over 1300 archers representing almost 300 clubs from all over Italy will compete for the class and overall titles in the naked bow (Thursday), compound bow (Friday) and Olympic bow (Saturday and Sunday) divisions.

Also on the Friulian firing line are the Olympic and Paralympic national teams committed to the Paris 2024 Games and the Azzurri starting the European Indoor Championships which will be held in Varazdin (Cro) from 20 to 25 February.

It took place this morning in Pordenone, in Conference Room “P. Ellero” of Palazzo Baldinithe press conference to present the 51st Italian Indoor Archery Championship which, for the first time, will take place at Pordenone Fair from 15 to 18 February and which will bring around 1400 participating athletes from all over Italy, including the Italian archers involved in the run-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Tricolori of Pordenone, with its 800 accredited technicians and hundreds of companions, represent the largest archery event on the national calendar and will also be the competitive event that precedes Italy’s participation in the European Indoor Championship which will take place in Varazdin, in Croatia, from 19 to 24 February.

Numerous authorities were present at the press conference, starting from the Mayor of Pordenone, Alessandro Ciriani: “Another target hit by the municipal administration with a view to strengthening presence in the city. Hosting the Italian Indoor Archery Championships means bringing a large number of athletes to Pordenone, with coaches and family members in tow for around 3 thousand people from all over Italy, who will stay in the city for four days. The result of a synergy between the Fair, the Municipality offices and the economic categories, this great sporting event represents the opportunity to show our guests the artistic beauties of Pordenone, the richness of our museums and cultural events, the many shops in where you can go shopping, enjoying the goodness of the area and experiencing our hospitality first-hand”.

The President FITARCO, Mario Scarzellawho spoke via video conference from the Rome offices, highlighted the importance of the competitive event: “I must thank the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the Municipality of Pordenone and the Fair Authority for giving us this great opportunity. The Italian Indoor Championship is the biggest archery event of the season, a great commitment for the Torresin archers who organize it. I thank all the associations who will give their support to the COL and who will allow numerous archers present to compete to the maximum of their abilities. We will see the best Italian archers competing who are preparing for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024. Our best wishes go to them and to the national teams who will participate in the European Indoor Championships immediately after the tricolors”.

These are the words of the regional councilor for productive activities and tourism of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Sergio Emidio Bini: “Sporting events of this caliber have great value for our Region, because they represent an important tool for promotion and recognition. Furthermore, they are an opportunity to showcase, especially towards young people, healthy values ​​such as dedication, constant training, passion and the ability to sacrifice. Also representing the region, the Regional Councilor also spoke, Markus Maurmair: “After ten editions in Emilia Romagna we are very happy to welcome this challenge, bringing a great national event to the region, making our facilities available for the competition and for the welcome that Friuli wants to reserve for participants and companions, with the best wishes that this event can return to the Pordenone Fair in the future too”.

The President of the COL, Renato Bazzichettoexpressed sincere thanks to those who supported the initiative from the beginning: “Without the support of the institutions it would not have been possible to bring this archery competition to the Pordenone Fair. I must also thank the Fiamme Crimisi and the Alpini Group of Pordenone Centro who will make the volunteers available to us, figures necessary to complete the championship. I also express great gratitude to all the economic categories for their support which will allow us to host so many people on race days”.

In closing, the Sports Councilor of the Municipality of Pordenone expressed great satisfaction, Walter De Bortoli: “We gladly and with great pride host this Italian Fitarco championship. I am very pleased that there is another sport coming to Pordenone where our structures are flexible and can be transformed from an exhibition fair to a sports arena. We are certainly applying to host the next editions of the championship and we make ourselves available to the Federation, which has believed in our abilities.”

THE EVENT – After ten editions held in Rimini, the Italian Indoor Championship 2024 will be hosted for the first time at Pordenone Fair.

From February 15th to 18thfor the 51ª edition of the tricolors indoors named after the memory of Giggi Cartoni, late employee of the Federation, a record attendance of participants is expected. The program – On the first day of the event, Thursday 15 Februarywill be entirely dedicated to the division arco naked with qualifications and the assignment of class titles in the morning and, in the afternoon, preliminaries and finals for the overall individual and team titles.

Friday 16th the same program will be repeated for i compoundWhile Saturday 17 the race dedicated toarco Olympic with the qualifying rounds that assign the class titles and make up the scoreboards of the individual and team direct clashes Sunday 18 Februaryfinal day which includes matches for the overall podium.

All class titles (Boys, Students, Junior, Senior, Master) are contested on 60 arrows at a distance of 18 metres. The scores obtained at the end of the qualifications then define the scoreboard of the individual and team direct clashes, which are played with the set system for bare and recurve bows, while for compound bows the absolute titles are assigned with the cumulative scoring system.

AZZURRI IN THE COMPETITION – The 51st Italian Indoor Championship will have very high competitive content. In fact, there will be archers from the team on the shooting line National Olympic and Paralympic team committed on the path to the Paris 2024 Games and 32 azzurriboth seniors and juniors from the three divisions, who will be involved in the competitions from 20 to 25 February Varazdin European Indoor Championshipsin Croatia, in the first international event of the season.

THE OUTGOING ITALIAN CHAMPIONS – Defending the tricolors won in the 2023 edition will be the three-time medalist at the Olympic Games for the Olympic division Mauro Nespoli e Chiara Rebagliati, the Italian team who won bronze at the European Games last year, gaining what, at the moment, is the only pass to Paris obtained by Italy. The reigning champion teams are Voghera archers masculine e Juvenile archers feminine.

In the compound the holders of the crown of king and queen of Italy are light blue Elia Fregnan and the young one Elisa Roner who, thanks to the international results of last season, climbed the world rankings reaching 6th place in the ranking. In the team event they will defend the Italian title Archers of the Alps and the Kentron Dard.

As regards the bare bow, the defending champions are the national ones Eric Esposito e Giulia Mantilliwhile the reigning team champions are the trio of Apuan Arrows Company and the athletes of the Archers of the Alps.
