From February 5 to 11, 2024, CE2, CM1 and CM2 classes from Ternay and Vallée-de-Ronsard schools participated in the “Olympic and Paralympic Class’Usep”.

This event is divided into three highlights during the school year, the second phase will take place in April and the last in June.

During the week, teachers Christelle Jeannot and Laure Savignat were accompanied by two educators from Usep to introduce the 43 children to several sports. The week began with an opening ceremony in the Savigny gymnasium. The students, organized into delegations, marched singing the anthem of the country they represented. After the passing of the flame and the recital of the oath, the practice of sports began.

At the Paralympic Games on September 6

The children were able to try fencing, para-fencing, curling, boccia, goalball, archery, and even sitting volleyball. They discussed disability, gender equality and the Olympic Games from a historical perspective. The students also had to write a letter to encourage the athlete of their choice, which will then be posted on the Usep website, where it can be read by the athletes.

Finally, an escape game around Olympic values and symbols was organized.

At the end of the week, the closing ceremony took place with a flash mob. “We have resumed the official dance of the Games on the website”, explains Christelle Jeannot.

Both schools have applied for “Generation 2024” labeling. This label aims to develop bridges between the academic and sporting worlds. “We asked for it because we participate in many activities with Usep every year, but we made an even greater effort this time”confides Christelle Jeannot.

Furthermore, the Vallée-de-Ronsard school was selected by the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports to attend the Paralympic Games on Friday, September 6. The whole school should therefore attend the para-athletics event in Paris.
