Taz Lanzarote Dominates Spanish Grappling Championship in Gijón

Last weekend the Spanish Grappling Championship was held in Gijón (Asturias), a type of fighting that combines techniques from different martial arts such as Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo or sambo. The Taz Lanzarote team, directed by teacher Jonathan Hernández, participated with 18 wrestlers in the veteran C, senior, sub 20, sub 17 and sub 15 categories, both in the Gi (with kimono) and No Gi (without kimono) categories.

The result was spectacular, since the Canarian team achieved a total of 27 medals: 17 gold, 1 silver and 9 bronze. In addition, he was proclaimed team champion and actively collaborated so that the Canary Islands were the best autonomous team in the national team, demonstrating his high level and mastery in this discipline.

The Taz Lanzarote medalists were the following:

– Aron Hernández Montero, senior 71 kg: gold in No Gi (won Avelino Santos in the final).

– Kevin Martín Tinoco, senior 66 kg: bronze in No Gi (fought at 77 kg and won the repechage against Sergio Michan) and bronze in Gi (fought at 77 kg and won the repechage against Álvaro Sampayo and Ramón Ibañez).

– Albano Callero Brito, senior 62 kg: bronze in No Gi (won the repechage over Raúl Bado) and bronze in Gi (won the repechage over Raúl Bado).

– José Borja Pérez Rojas, senior 62 kg: bronze in No Gi (won the repechage against Acoidán Arbelo).

– Samuel Silvestri, sub 20 71 kg: bronze in No Gi (he won the repechage against Olai Rodríguez).

– Daniel González Ferrer, sub 20 58 kg: gold in No Gi (won Luis Coretes in the final) and gold in Gi (won Christian Cabrera in the final).

– Saulo Hernández Montero, sub 17 54 kg: gold in No Gi (won Álvaro Madrid in the final) and gold in Gi (won Álvaro Madrid in the final).

– Aitana Eloísa Loor Cartagena, sub 17 60 kg: gold in No Gi and gold in Gu (won Carla Melero in both finals)

– Izan Rodríguez Rosa, sub 15 59 kg: gold in No Gi (won Álvaro Pinto in the final) and gold in Gi (won Cuello García in the final).

– Darrington de la Cruz Mercedes, sub 15 47 kg: gold in No Gi (won Gonzalo Díez in the final) and gold in Gi (won Gonzalo Díez in the final).

– Jordi Lage Rodríguez, sub 15 42 kg: bronze in No Gi (won the repechage against Alessandro Loni) and gold in Gi (won Marco García in the final).

– Matías Rivera Suárez, sub 15 35 kg: gold in No Gi (won Izan Reboiras and Rico Douglas) and gold in Gi (won Izan Reboiras and Rico Douglas).

– Irinea Medina Rodríguez, sub 15 44 kg: bronze in Gi (lost in the semifinals with Carla Jódar) and silver in No Gi (lost in the final with Carla Jódar)

– Moisés Alfonso Gómez López, veteran C 100 kg: bronze in No Gi (lost to Otavio Luz and Ezequiel Silvino) and gold in Gi (fought at 130 kg and won against José María Aguilera).

– Jonathan Hernández Hernández, veteran C 84 kg: gold in No Gi (won Rumen Caraballo in the final) and gold in Gi (won Pedro Sánchez and Anibal López).

The following wrestlers did not win a medal, but they gave a great performance:

– Acoidán Arbelo Betancor, senior 62 kg.

– Airan Doramas Fuentes Montelongo, senior 100 kg.

– Marina Farray García, senior 53 kg.

The Taz Lanzarote team has once again demonstrated its quality and commitment to grappling, a sport that requires a lot of dedication, discipline and sacrifice. His coach, Jonathan Hernández, has been very proud of his pupils and has thanked his sponsors, family and friends for their support. He also congratulated the rest of the teams and competitors that participated in the championship, as well as the organization and refereeing.
