Switzerland Dominates Ireland in 86-63 Victory: A Strong Start in World Cup Prequalifications

Switzerland had an excellent match against Ireland in Dublin. The Helvetians won 86-63 in this second match of the 1st round of prequalifications for the 2027 World Cup.

A complete performance. The selection of Ilias Papatheodorou did not miss his first trip. After having difficulty starting their match against Azerbaijan on Thursday in Fribourg, the Swiss did not make the same mistake this time by entering the game straight away.

Apart from the first 2 points at the start of the match, the Clover players never led the score. Because Switzerland knew how to play an iron defense. And also because they didn’t need to rely on 1 or 2 men. Everyone made their contribution since no less than 7 players scored more than 8 points.

The Helvetians were a little shaken up at the start of the 2nd half. But then they moved the score from 37-42 to 43-63. In these favorable conditions, Papatheodorou was able to rotate his squad and offer playing time to all his players. Noé Anabir was notably impeccable with 15 points in 11 minutes and a 5/5 behind the arc. Very good outing also from the interiors Jurkovitz (10 pts) and Martin (14 pts).
