Sven Manthey Dominates in Judo Championships, Secures Victory With Tactical Skill

Manthey had been placed in the weight class up to 50 kilograms by the state coach and therefore did not have to qualify through the district championships. The man from Dinkelstadt lived up to his role as favorite and confidently fought his way into the semi-finals.

There was a repeat of last year’s semi-final duel against Osman Osmanov (JC Bushido Cologne-Süd). The 16-year-old dominated the hold fight, but was unable to break through the Cologne native’s compact defense during the regular fighting time. It was only in extra time (Golden Score) that he achieved the decisive score with an inside sickle.

The final against Justus Hirschfelder (JC 66 Bottrop) was also a repeat of last year. At that time, the Bottroper had the better end in the weight class up to 46 kilos. In the new edition, a high-class fight ensued in which the Bottrop player dominated the ground fight and Manthey had the stronger approaches while standing.

Only a few seconds before the end of the regular four-minute fight time, the Gronauer managed the only score of the fight, again with an inside sickle, and thus revenge for last year’s defeat.

“Sven attacked from all situations and at the same time stuck to the tactical line,” commented coach Bodo Manthey with satisfaction on his protégé’s performance.
