Strasbourg Coach Vieira Reflects on Defensive Solidarity and Offensive Struggles

Patrick Vieira, Strasbourg coach, after the elimination in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France against Lyon (0-0, 3-4 in the tabs): “We offered a lot of solidarity but on arrival, he told us missed too many things offensively. This (Tuesday) evening we saw a team with confidence, Lyon, and one which is a little less so. But the satisfaction was being consistent defensively. We all suffered together, we all defended together. That’s positive, reassuring, we found things lost recently in the Championship, solidity. Going back to a five-man defense allowed us to have more presence in the box, which was interesting.

But on the offensive side, we weren’t good, let’s say not inspired. It lacked accuracy and technical quality. We have to find a balance, score goals too, create more situations. In terms of ball release, the decision-making was not good in certain situations, it’s something we’ve been carrying around for quite some time.

Penalty shots, lottery? It’s a question of technical quality, composure, a lot of fatigue, we ran a lot… When you mix all that together, you can say that we were clumsy. »
