Out of the ATP top 10 for the first time in 5 years, Stefanos Tsitsipas has been on the downward slope for several months now. The Greek player, now 11th in the world, has not progressed beyond the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for a year (at Roland Garros), failing 3 times also in the 1/8th finals at Wimbledon, the US Open and most recently at the ‘Australian Open. Less aggressive in the game, Stefanos Tsitsipas nonetheless remains a player with enormous talent that he has only shown intermittently in recent months. This year, only one tournament was played, in Melbourne, for the result that we know. However, in lower level tournaments, the Greek often responds with semi-finals in Bercy and Vienna at the end of the 2023 season, proof that his tennis can work wonders. Seeded number 2 this week in Los Cabos, Stefanos Tsitsipas will try to achieve the double in Mexico after winning the hard court tournament last summer. For this, we will have to start well this Thursday in a clash against Aleksandar Vukic. The Australian has finally unlocked his account in 2024 yesterday after starting the year after 4 defeats in the first round (Brisbane, Auckland, Australian Open and Delray Beach). The 72nd player in the world certainly struggled to get his tournament off to a good start, dominating the Mexican R.Pacheco Mendez in 2 tie-breaks. Nothing very reassuring before meeting one of the tournament favorites, but an important victory for morale!
