Stainz Judo Team Dominates Tournament in Bruck/Mur

Great success for the Stainz judo team: eleven athletes made it onto the podium at the tournament in Bruck/Mur. Gold went to Leonie Simunovic. Head coach Christa Schimpel sees the result as a promise for the Styrians.

With 17 active participants, the Stainz judo section with head coach Christa Schimpel started the judo tournament last Sunday in the Hannes Bammer sports hall in Bruck/Mur. 239 participants from 24 clubs made the competition a huge event in Styria. “I was able to see a lot of Ippon victories and a lot of beautiful techniques,” said the trainer, who was pleased that her protégés tried new things and didn’t give up after falling behind. That’s what you call a fighter’s heart when a deficit can still be turned into a victory. Surprising: Leonie Simunovic competed in a tournament for the first time and, after initially being nervous, won the U-8 up to 32 kilogram class. Also impressive were Jakob Mörth (U-8 up to 22 kg) and Sarah Fuchs (U-10 up to 32 kg), who deservedly placed 2nd and 3rd in the final rankings. Or Isabella Dengg, who only has to admit defeat in the final. Laura Diestler, who moved up to third place after numerous fourth and fifth places, was also rewarded.

Eleven podium places

Here is the winner’s board: 1st place Leonie Simunovic (U-8 up to 32 kg), 2nd place Jakob Mörth (U-8 up to 22 kg), Philipp Seifert (U-10 up to 46 kg), Jana Pignitter (U-12 up to 40 kg), Klara Berger (U-14 up to 57 kilograms), Isabella Dengg (U-12 up to 28 kg), 3rd place Lena Mörth (U-12 up to 32 kilograms), Jannek Grill (U-10 up to 24 kg) , Philipp Seifert (U-10 up to 46 kilograms), Laura Diestler (U-12 up to 28 kilograms), Sarah Fuchs (U-10 up to 32 kg), 4th place Katharina Suppan (U-12 up to 36 kilograms), 5th. Maria Moik (U-14 up to 48 kilograms), 9th place Paul Mörth (U-12 up to 38 kg), Alexa Mochart-Peiner (U-12 up to 38 kilograms), Gabrijel Simunovic (U-10 up to 32 kilograms), no placement Matthias Painsi.
“It was a wonderful start to the season,” said Christa Schimpel, who found not only the placings great, but above all the fighting performances and the further development of the fighters. This is very positive for the Styrian Championships for U-12, U-16 and U-21.
