The Spanish footballers have won the first edition of the Nations League. In the final in Seville on Wednesday evening (February 28, 2024), the world champion won 2-0 against Germany’s semi-final conqueror France.

World footballer Aitana Bonmatí (32nd minute) and Mariona Caldentey (53rd) shot coach Montse Tomé’s team to the title. For the Spaniards it was their first ever win against France after 13 unsuccessful attempts.

Bonmatí declares war: “This team knows no limits”

“Everything we have achieved is incredible,” said Bonmatí on Spanish television and sent a threat to the defeated competition: “This team knows no limits. World Cup, now the Nations League and then the Olympics.”

In the semi-finals, the team led by captain Irene Paredes defeated the Netherlands 3-0 and thus already secured their ticket to the Olympics. France is already set to host the Summer Games in Paris.

The third Olympic place for a European team will be determined on Wednesday evening in the game for third place in the Nations League between the Netherlands and Germany.
