With Joel Parra in the starting team after giving the scare against Latvia, Spain had a hard time getting into the rhythm against Belgium, with Sergio Scariolo’s team having a somewhat cold startwhere Parra precisely took the offensive baton, although he also allowed the Belgians to attack with some ease and control the game at the beginning (9-6).

Scariolo moved the entire starting five, setting up Ricky, who scored his first three free throws and with a very even duel in the many errors in the shooting of both teams, unable to give rhythm to the meeting.

No one seemed capable of putting some order in a really bleak first room, both sets incapable of chaining two consecutive good actions. A really bad first partial and that Spain dominated thanks to a final triple by Brizuela (11-14).

Spain entered the second quarter with a little more strength, more serious in defense against a Belgium that continued without much aim and depending too much on Obasohan. A triple by Parra, the most successful in Spain, gave them the maximum (14-19).

Scariolo’s men were not developing great basketball, very imprecisebut the Belgians did not seem to demand too much from them except for Obasohan (8) who equalized the contest (19-19).

Ricky returned to the match although he could not make sense of the Spanish attack either., very unwise, but given the weakness of the rival, he continued to command with short gains and reaching the maximum of the match at half-time (19-26). Without a doubt, the best was the result, with childish figures.

Ricky led the team, although he missed a couple of clear shots as a result of his lack of confidence, which will surely return little by little. Midway through the fourth Belgium continued to insist with Gillet as their best man and they got dangerously close (31-34). The Belgians continued to persist and after five consecutive points from Delalieux, they managed finish the quarter ahead (40-39) and threatening Spain’s first victory.

Belgium turns it around

Scariolo’s team started with a 0-8 run (40-48) but had a local response with Obasohan and Mwema (48-48) with 3:28 left.. Scariolo’s team still had not put another march into the match and the duel still had no owner. Brizuela returned to the game to give some spark to the attack, which was very subdued throughout the match but Ricky did not do it.

A triple from Gillet and a basket from Obasohan They gave Belgium the maximum at the worst moment (53-48) with 1:58 left and Scariolo stopped the duel. Spain’s reaction did not arrive in the final moments, and Scariolo’s team suffered the second consecutive defeat in this qualifier (58-53).
