Soudal Quick-Step Struggles to Keep Up with Visma-Lease a Bike: Are the Wolves Losing Their Bite?

Soudal Quick-Step is at a loss. The Wolfpack was nowhere to be seen during the Opening Weekend and was unable to put up a fight against the superior power of Visma-Lease a Bike at any time. Are the wolves still showing their teeth?

Yves Lampaert spoke after Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne The last news. The West Flemish crossed the line in 27th place and realizes that a lot has to change if Soudal Quick-Step Van Aert and co. wants to be correct.

“Visma was outstanding, for the second day in a row. The five of them sprinted up the Bourliquet, the rest just drifted along behind. Phenomenal,” said Lampaert.

“We all had to pass. Just like many other teams. Hopefully their supremacy will fade a bit. Because they are super strong. Where are my chances this spring? I have no idea…”

Alaphilippe

Will the bad luck ever stop for the Frenchman? Julian Alaphilippe crashed twice on Sunday. Once at the Hostellerie and in the final he crashed together with teammate Kasper Asgreen.

“Without that fall he would still have competed for the prizes. I’m not saying he would have won, but he certainly would have played his role,” said sports director Tom Steels.

Lamperti

Luke Lamperti, seventh in Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, proved that there is music in the youth of Soudal Quick-Step. “I cannot blame our boys at all. Lamperti, Magnier… they are top talents. But we should not rush too hard with those guys, nor burn them out prematurely,” said sports director Wilfried Peeters.
