Softball Icon Cornelia Chwojka Inducted into European Baseball and Softball Hall of Fame

The 50-year-old softball icon was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the European Baseball and Softball Association (WBSC Europe). The woman from Langenzersdorf ensured an emotional red-white-red premiere.

The long-time pitcher for the national softball team, the Vienna Razorbacks, the Vienna Wanderers and the Dornbirn Sharx is the first ABF representative of the hall of fame for European baseball and softball sports, which has existed since 1988.

“It is a great honor to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. I am happy that I can share this moment with my colleagues, former teammates, officials and my president and, above all, I am proud of the development that softball has undergone since I started. I thank you all for that,” said a surprised and touched Chwojka in her speech at this year’s WBSC Europe Congress in Malaga, Spain.

Appreciation from the President: “Your name is inextricably linked to the history of Austrian softball”

“The name Cornelia Chwojka is not only inextricably linked to the history of Austrian softball, but also to its greatest successes and rapid developments over the past three decades,” says ABF President Rainer Husty.

Between 1993 and 2017, Chwojka took part in eight European Championships (two B-Pool silver, one B-Pool bronze) and two World Championships (1994, 2016), won 25 national championship titles and even the European Cup with Dornbirn in 2009. The softball icon has been an official at WBSC Europe for many years and, as technical commissioner, is responsible, among other things, for game organization and management at major tournaments.

About two weeks ago, Chwojka, who works full-time as a teacher, was awarded a medal of honor for her services at the ABF’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
