Skiing in the Spring sun? In Carinthia!

Carinthia is a land kissed by the sun, not only in summer, but also in winter.
Its 23 ski areas, in addition to offering a huge variety of slopes and landscapes, guarantee skiing in the Spring sun with many beautiful clear days from mid-March until the end of the winter season.
In fact, Carinthia’s ski areas experience around 100 hours more sunshine in winter than any other destination on the northern side of the Alpine chain.

Skiing in the Spring sun

For those who don’t ski or are taking a break from the slopes, there are many sunny terraces of mountain huts and refuges or places with panoramic views where you can sit and sunbathe and regenerate with the warmth of the sun.
In the Nassfeld/Pramollo ski area, the largest sun terrace in the Alps, at the various ski lodges, the themes vary from Caribbean atmosphere complete with palm trees and drinks with exotic fruit.
In the Bad Kleinkirchheim area, however, there are even spaces equipped with deckchairs that are identified and recognized as “sun replenishers”. The “sun supplies” project is a project that will involve, probably in the 24/25 season, all the ski areas in Carinthia and which will also include columns where cell phones can be recharged using solar energy.

Skis on your feet and sun on your face

Due to the particularly sunny slopes on the southern side of the Austrian Alps, Carinthia is increasingly appreciated as a winter sports destination, especially by families.
Far from mass tourism, Carinthia’s TOP ski resorts offer ideal conditions for spending a restful winter holiday on and off the slopes. Safety, comfort and excellent snow coverage are primary objectives for ski lift managers.

Comfortable and modern cable cars, even with heated seats as in Nassfeld/Pramollo or Alpe Gerlitzen, challenging descents on the Turrach and Katschberg, the highest ski areas in Carinthia, namely that of the Mölltal/Ankogel glacier and the Grossglockner/ Heiligenblut in the middle of the 3000 meter alpine environment guarantees skiing fun until late spring. With easy and quiet slopes, the small Carinthian ski areas of the Lavanttal valley and the Nockberge mountains are ideal for families.

Slope butlers

Have you ever thought about drinking a glass of prosecco in the middle of the slopes? Well, in Carinthia you can! The slope butler in the Turracher Höhe ski area makes every wish come true, not just a glass of prosecco: a handkerchief is given to dripping noses, a sun cream is given to flushed faces, and greedy chocolates or ice cream are given to those with a sweet tooth. Thanks to the attentions of the slope butler, moments spent on skis are undoubtedly more pleasant and carefree for guests of all ages, who can thus relax and enjoy the perfectly prepared snow.

TOPSKIPass

“One for all” is the motto of Carinthia’s TOPSKIPass. A universal key that opens the doors of 30 ski areas in Carinthia and East Tyrol. In addition to this, there are also local ski passes which include various interesting all-inclusive services, such as the Ski-Wellness weeks in Bad Kleinkirchheim, “Ski for free” in Weissbriach or the “Winter-Paket” package of Mount Goldeck, very popular with families, offering children up to 14 years a free ski pass.

Sunny views of nature: ski touring on the Nockberge Trail

An interesting novelty is the ski mountaineering trek on the Nockberge Trail, which connects the five ski areas Katschberg, Innerkrems, Turrach, Falkert and Bad Kleinkirchheim/St. Oswald. It is perfect for calm ski mountaineers with good experience and training, but who do not wish to tackle mountaineering passages. Up to six hours of walking must be planned for each stage. The presence of some ski lifts and chair lifts allows you to save several meters of altitude difference for each stage. The Nockberge Trail is the first Austrian ski mountaineering trail that can be booked online. You can leave when, how, where and with whom you want: along the Nockberge-Trail you will find affiliated hotel facilities, a convenient luggage transport and shuttle service, and a telephone assistance service for the trail. A peculiarity of the Nockberge Trail compared to other multi-day ski mountaineering itineraries: you don’t stay overnight in dormitories, but in high-level (wellness) hotels with excellent Alpe Adria cuisine.

Sun-kissed winter wellness

Wellness and winter sports are a perfect combination, even when the sun intensely heats the verandas and glass saunas in the bathhouses on the banks of the Millstätter See, Klopeiner See and Wörthersee lakes. Outdoors, in a swimsuit you can enjoy the winter sun in the warm water of the Warmbad Villach Thermal Spa, or in the two spa complexes of Bad Kleinkirchheim (St. Kathrein and Römerbad), not to mention the heated swimming pools of some hotels on the lakes Millstätter See, Wörthersee and Turracher See.

The offer of the combined Ski & Therme ticket for 2, 3 or 4 days is very interesting, which includes skiing fun on the Gerlitzen Alpe and the FUN daily entrance to the KärntenTherme in Warmabad Villach without reservation.

Winter Carinthia Card

The Winter Kärnten Card is also available this winter, a precious travel companion for every experience: from peaceful snowshoe excursions in the wonderful nature of Carinthia to ascents to discover the snow-covered mountains. Breathtaking views from the Pyramidenkogel tower, the cultural offer of the Carinthian museums, various cable cars and much more complete the offer of the Winter Kärnten Card.
